Creating your sphere of influence is one of the first steps to being successful in sales. Interestingly, it’s no different in link building.
When you first launch your site, or even if it’s been launched for years, take the time to create an excel database that contains the names and contact information of EVERYONE you know. We’re not talking just the Christmas card list… everyone! We have provided a handy checklist that you can use to help.
Once you have all of these people in your database call them and say the following:
“Hi, this is {your name}. I’m trying to launch my website and get it to rank higher in the search engines. To do this, I need to get people with websites or pages to link to my website. Do you happen to have a website that you could link to me from? I would be happy to provide a testimonial for your business or write an article or something for you if it would help.”
If they don’t (or even if they do), make sure that you then ask them permission to contact at least two other people that they might know who have access to a site that they could link to your from.
